Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) organized a ‘Save Electricity Campaign’ :


Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) organized a ‘Save Electricity Campaign’ at Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with SOCH NGO, from 19th September 2016 to 24th September 2016. A team of 6 members from the Department of Electrical Engineering, ZHCET, AMU, supervised the events that followed during the entire week. The members Faiz Parvez, Faizi Ali Kirmani, Mohannad Ali Khan, Sharif Kidwai, Syed Kashif Hasan and Abdul Jalil Khan along with the SOCH volunteers Tabish Suhail (Event Manager), Amood Gulzar, Shawaiz Khan, Yusra Khan, Manaal Siddiqui, Humera Kabir, Sartaj Alam, Salman Ali Yousafazai and Dr. Saleem Mohd. Khan (President, SOCH NGO), organized and successfully conducted a series of 4 competitions spread over the entire awareness week, under the supervision of Dr. Mohd. Rihan (Member Incharge, Deptt. Of Electricity, AMU)



• Day 1: Opening Ceremony (19.9.2016)

The campaign started off with an opening ceremony conducted on 19th September 2016 at the Assembly Hall, University Polytechnic, AMU. The event was presided by honorable chief guest Mr. S.P. Garanayak {General Manager (Technical), Energy Efficiency Services Ltd.} along with Brigadier Syed Ahmad Ali, Pro Vice Chancellor, AMU and Mr. Afsar Ali Khan, The then acting Registrar of AMU, who graced the occasion with their presence. The ceremony began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by student Umair Hashmi, followed by a quick presentation by IEEE team member Mohannad Ali Khan regarding the organization and the list of competitions that were to be conducted throughout the week. The main highlight of the event was the informative lecture given by Mr. Garnayak on the role and consumption of energy in our country and the dire need of conserving it. Mr. Garnayak’s lecture was followed by a brief understanding of the demand and supply of energy in AMU, and the initiatives taken by the University to conserve it explained thoughtfully by Pro Vice Chancellor Brig. Syed Ahmad Ali. The event was hence concluded by a vote of thanks given by IEEE member and student Sharif Kidwai.
On the same day, Mr. S.P Garnayak hosted another informative lecture on the awareness regarding energy auditing and its management, at the Department of Electrical Engineering, ZHCET, AMU at 1:30 PM.


• Day 2 (20.9.16)

Day 2 began with an awareness drill carried out by the IEEE and SOCH teams at the Engineering faculty. The teams spread awareness by visiting individual classrooms and lecture halls and interacting with the students regarding the cause.
The teams also met with the Chairman of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Dr. M.M. Mohsin, regarding the importance of the campaign. The Chairman very kindly offered his guidance for the campaign, thereby reassuring the teams of his support for the cause and future initiatives to create further awareness and contribute towards the initiative.
Later during the day, the teams conducted a T-Shirt Painting Competition at 3 PM at the Zakir Hussain College of Engineering and Technology lawn. Participants showcased their creativity, the topic being Save Electricity, and various different ideas were skillfully portrayed on T-shirts provided to them. The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize were awarded to.


• Day 3 (21.9.16)

Day 3 started out with the IEEE and SOCH teams continuing their awareness among students by visiting the esteemed Maulana Azad Library, The Arts Faculty, Faculty of Management Studies and Research and Abdullah Hall during the afternoon hours.
The Save Electricity interaction was followed by the 2nd competition of the event i.e. Essay Writing, highlighting the ‘Save Electricity’ theme, the topic being: “The Need For Energy Conservation and Its Implications”. It was conducted at 2 PM at the Dept. of Electricity, AMU. The prize winner announced were as follows:
The day was concluded by the third competition of the week: Poster Making, which was conducted at 4 PM at the Dept. of Electricity, AMU, the theme being the same. The winners of Poster Making Competition were as follows:


• Day 4 (22.9.16)

The University departments visited by the IEEE and SOCH teams on the fourth day were the Department of Architecture, Department of Fine Arts and Department of Mass Communication. Following the awareness, the last competition of the event, Wall Graffiti was organized at 3 PM, behind the ZHCET Canteen, AMU. Participants let their imaginations run wild on the wall assigned to them, and created artworks depicting the importance of electricity conservation. The prize winners of the event were as follows:
